EYECON ART's Ross Bray, was born in the western Queensland - New South Wales border town of Goondiwindi in 1953. His father was a grazier and his mother a war widow with 3 children. Thus, Ross came to be nurtured and childhooded mostly in the 50's in the 'bush'. He started drawing at the age of 5. Two sisters came after him. Ross' family sold up, the sheep, cattle and wheat property they had moved to at Tara from Talwood on the western edge of the Darling Downs to shift to Brisbane in 1966 for Ross to commence high school. During his last year of secondary education, Ross experienced a nervous breakdown and was given shock treatment and antidepressants and a talk to.
Ross overcame his extreme shyness with the opposite sex to marry at the early age of 20. He has worked as a clerk in the Queensland Public Service, a brief stint as a brickies labourer, a window dresser/display artist and a telegram delivery officer and postman for Australia Post.
In 1984, at 30 years of age, he gained entry into the Queensland College of Art to begin a 3 year Diploma of Art Course, completing another year at Teacher's College to become a fulltime art teacher in Gold Coast High Schools for 11 years.
Ross then worked as a contract artist, a relief teacher, a hat packer and taxi driver. Ross has 5 adult children of whom he is very proud and 2 beautiful grand children.
